Description

A Complete Axis of Motion in a Compact, Rigid Platform

The XLA™ Series was constructed for a wide variety of applications requiring ultra high capacity in a compact envelope.

Heavy Duty Capacity
Ultra high capacity. The XLA™ 15 is the most robust of all standard SMI™ stages to date. The XLA™ 15 was designed as a stand alone Y axis on gantry applications and is rigid enough, eliminating the cost of structural support over long spans. Each XLA™ 15 has a static capacity exceeding 14,000 lbs. and a dynamic capacity of more than 9500 lbs. based on 2 million inches of travel life. All of this capacity in a unit with a envelope of less than 3" tall and 6" wide.

Moment Load Compensation™Moment Load Compensation™ negates the effects of applied moments of inertia, instead making offset loads into an equivalent vertical load. Moment Load Compensation™ makes slide life easily calculable and consistent.

Speed and Travel
The XLA™ 15 can achieve speeds of up to 12" per second with a standard motor and ball screw. Lead screws will allow speeds of up to 60" per second. Faster speed or greater positional accuracies can be achieved with SMI™ engineering assistance. The XLA™ 15 can be delivered as a single unit with travel lengths up to 110".

Rigid
The XLA™ 15 is built using SMI™ Rigid Plus™ extrusion designed to allow exceptional structural strength even when used without support. The XLA™ series was seen as a solution to cross axis applications where the Rigid Plus™ extrusion would enable the XLA™ 15 to become a structural member without the need for expensive base mounting structures. This Feature makes the XLA™ 15 perfect for a cross axis (Y Axis) on a gantry application.

Adaptable
All XLA™ series products incorporate a t-slot channel along the full length of the base. This bilateral channel allows for quick and easy adjustment for limit switches and/or other peripheral add-ons. The channels available on the underside of the base are configured in such a way to allow for simple mounting in an XY configuration.

Multiple axis units can be easily joined without the need for additional mounting plates. The mounting holes in the XLA™ carriage match mounting holes in the XLA™ base.

The XLA™ can be mounted in XY and Z configurations with the SMI™ optional Z bracket.

simflex™ MountingA close examination of the simflex™ top carriage mounting system reveals a unique top down or bottom up mounting method making attachment of your devices to the XLA™ a simple, flexible process. simflex

Harsh Environments
The XLA™ 15 incorporates an anodized 6061-T6 Aluminum base and components standard. The XLA™ 15 can be easily configured with a stainless steel ball screw, profile guide rails and end support bearings if desired.
